If you’re playing Pokemon Go, you know the drama happens once you reach Level 5 and have to choose where your allegiance lies.

Are you Team Instinct, Team Mystic or Team Valor? New Research from Adobe Digital Insights can probably guess.

More than 43 percent of players are choosing Team Mystic, according to Adobe Digital Index analysis of mentions on social media since the game’s release.

Team Valor has 32 percent of mentions and Team Instinct has just 25 percent.

Gaming website Kotaku polled its readers and, after more than 100,000 people answered, also found Team Mystic to be the largest at about 37 percent, followed by Valor with almost 30 percent and Instinct with 23 percent.

Why is Team Mystic so popular? Financial-information website MarketWatch published an article Friday positing a straightforward theory.

It’s the middle option.

“In other words, wily and athletic Pokemon Go players actually display most predictable consumer behavior,” author Quentin Fottrell wrote.

Research has shown that consumers choose the middle option because they perceive it as a “compromise,” for example a product that is cheap but not too cheap.

“People want to be on the winning team, but they also want to be on the biggest team. They walk through the middle door in buildings, drive on the center lane on motorways and buy the middle product on supermarket shelves,” according to Jeremy Smith, a conversion consultant who advises businesses on turning website visitors into customers. “It works for cellphone plans, software packages, perhaps even a Grande (medium-sized) Americano in Starbucks.”

People already have began creating high-quality fan art for the team.
